What fuel your furnace? Furnace Type Considerations

At WIN GROUP, we provide Electric Furnace and Fuel-Fired Furnace designs to fulfil the technical challenges and operation goals of our clients across all manufacturing and material processing industries.
Depending on the application, environment, availability of resources, and budget, it is important to consider several core design considerations to achieve optimal efficiency, safety, and desired product outcomes.
 
Electric Furnaces
Electric furnaces generate heat via electrical induction or resistance, making them highly efficient with a controllable internal temperature and pressure. They are also more environmentally friendly. However, they are relatively more expensive to operate compared to fuel-fired furnaces.
Resistance-type electric furnaces
Resistance-type electric furnaces generate heat by passing electrical current flows through a resistor circuit.
Induction-type electrical furnaces
Induction-type electrical furnaces generate heat by passing electricity through induction coils around a load. These systems are often water-cooled to prevent overheating.
Advantages:

  • More consistent and even heating as compared to gas-type furnaces

Fuel-Fired Furnaces
Fuel-fired furnaces generate heat via the combustion of fuels, gases and raw materials. With the high availability of inexpensive fuels and the large amounts of heat energy they can produce, fuel-fired furnaces are a mainstay in manufacturing and material processing.
In addition, high-efficiency modern fuel-fired furnaces match the efficiency of electric furnaces, leading to increased cost-performance and lower environmental impact.
